During the development of the action plan for Champ d'actions – Collective food security project – food organizations in Sherbrooke expressed their interest in considering the possibility of carrying out group purchases of foodstuffs. The creation of such a purchasing grouping would improve the purchasing power of organizations, particularly from local producers and/or suppliers, with the idea of contributing to making the local and territorial food system more sustainable, resilient and united.
In the fall of 2022, this idea was explored by the Champ d'actions project manager, with representatives of the Estrie Biofood Industry Council (CIBLE), the Union of Agricultural Producers ( UPA Estrie) and the Cooperative for local and ecological agriculture (CAPÉ).
Guided by the same objectives, the Moisson Estrie organization had the idea of evaluating the possibility of bringing this project idea to the regional level. A funding request was therefore submitted, in December 2022, to enable the completion of a feasibility study for this purchasing grouping project which would have the potential to increase the supply of local foods by around a hundred organizations in Estrie.
